Ask Me?
I hope that I get the chance to work with you -- but if we can't meet, here are some resources to help with your math and science studies:
PRE-ALGEBRA
I like the Spectrum Math workbooks for grades 6 - 8. You can either purchase the workbooks for each grade, or the combined grades 6 - 8 workbook. The lessons are in accord with state Common Core Standards, so you're in good hands. There is no substitute for practicing the arithmetic skills necessary for algebra, and these books provide ample opportunity!
ALGEBRA & PRE-CALCULUS
The math textbook I consider to be the gold standard is Algebra and Trigonometry by James Stewart. This text can act as a worthy supplement to a 'Common Core Standard' textbook. Despite the title, the book covers not only the material covered in a standard Math I - III / Algebra 1 & 2 course of study, but also material in a precalculus course (e.g. trigonometric functions and their applications - polar, parametric, vectors & matrices). Although you can purchase the latest version on Amazon, just look for the earliest edition at the cheapest price -- I still use the 1st edition!
ADVANCED PLACEMENT
The series of study guides I use for AP review are the '500 Questions' series from McGraw Hill. They have created study guides and practice multiple choice questions for every AP subject. The STEM based guides (i.e., AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Statistics) have a thorough selection of practice questions designed to familiarize students with every variation of problem, separated by unit topic. Free response review questions can be found on the College Board website; depending on the subject, there are 20+ years of old test questions to explore!
SAT / ACT PREP
Test guides for SAT and ACT review are numerous. Four well known sources for SAT and ACT review are Barron's, Princeton Review, Kaplan, and the official SAT and ACT guides:
The official SAT & ACT guides are from the College Board and ACT, the companies that administer the test. In my opinion, they are the easiest test guides to use since they are versions of the actual test. Barron's test guides offer the most difficult versions of test practice, with the expectation that harder questions will make the actual test questions easier to solve. Princeton and Kaplan fall in between Barron's and the official guides' difficulty. Most guides include about 6 - 10 practice tests for use. I would recommend practicing the individual verbal and math skills on Khan Academy first before attempting a practice test.
